The
Costa Tropical is situated on the southern Mediterranean coast
of Spain in the Province of Granada, between La Rabita on the
east side and La Herradura on the west. At present the
area is virtually undiscovered by tourism.
This area of coastline is called the Costa
Tropical because of the gentle winds from north Africa, the
warmth of the Mediterranean's waters, and the protection
afforded by the high peaks of the Sierra Nevada, provide the
area with a very particular microclimate unique on the
peninsular. More than 320 days of sunshine a year and 20c
average annual temperature are more than convincing
arguments for choosing the Costa Tropical.
A surprising and varied landscape awaits;
wide beaches, small coves, sheer cliffs and green valleys
set against majestic mountains; an exuberant plant life
which alternates subtropical fruits and Iberian plants;
exquisite whitewashed villages of steep streets, close by
the sea.
For those who love movement and action, the
weather here allows for a wide range of sports, almost all
year round. Thanks to the warm clear waters, the sea
floor here invites one to practice diving or fishing.
On the surface, a dazzling sun encourages you to challenge
the wind on a windsurf board, sailing, water ski-ing, on
water bike or simply enjoying a relaxing jaunt in a paddle
boat, boats and catamarans.
Beach volleyball, golf, tennis, squash,
indoor sports, football, basketball, bike rides, trekking
etc.... all these and many more are possible on the Costa
Tropical.
One hundred and three kilometres of coast
offer numerous beaches to cover all tastes. Wide
expanses with small coves; some are lively and bustling,
others wild and laid back. Even naturists have a place
to relax and bathe in the warm waters.
Pleasant strolls amongst magnificent parks,
plains or gardens where flowers and leafy plants and trees
which delight the senses, all help us to find that much
desired relaxation. Equally, the exceptional natural
environment and the small villages far from crowds, also
offer the chance to go on pleasant excursions or enjoy
nature, climbing, trekking or on horseback rides.
For those of you that enjoy walking in a
natural environment, the Alpujarras are a short distance
away. Further along the coast towards Almeria, many of
the spaghetti westerns were filmed and here there is now
Mini Hollywood which has it's own cowboy village.
If what you really want is fun, the younger
ones will enjoy the three aquaparks close by, in Almunecar,
Roquetas del Mar and in Granada. Alternatively travel
on one of the fun trains riding around the beaches, streets
and squares
